A Letter From CWA President Larry Cohen

Our momentum to support the importance of collective bargaining  just keeps growing.

In the face of the continued attacks on workers’ rights, people from coast to coast are rising up to defend the right to organize.

On April 4th, CWA members will join our brothers and sisters throughout the labor movement, pro-worker elected officials, and members of the public for a powerful Day of Action to show the corporate-backed politicians that we’re united as one — and that we refuse to sit back while they take away our basic workers’ rights.

Join us. Sign up today to commit to taking action on April 4th.

This past Tuesday evening, thousands of CWA members joined a national activist call to discuss our ongoing response to these attacks.

We heard from Congressman John Lewis, a moral giant of the civil rights movement and confidante of Dr. King, that he will stand with us again on April 4th in Atlanta.

We heard from Ben Jealous of the NAACP, whose members will join the labor movement on April 4th in support of basic rights and dignity at work.

We heard from Michele Lewis, president of the New Mexico State Employees Alliance, whose members will wear chili pepper red (their state color) in defiance of their governor’s attacks on state workers’ bargaining rights.

We heard from Dennis Csillag from NABET/CWA Local 59054 in San Diego, which will host a candlelight vigil on April 4th to commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King and his fight for workers’ rights.

And we heard from Colleen Downing from Local 6450 in Kansas City, which is planning all kinds of activities through April 4th: buses to the state capitol, large rallies, stickers and wristbands to wear at work, and a collective show of strength at 12 noon on April 4th.

These are three of the hundreds of actions planned by CWAers across the country.

We’re gathering real steam as we head toward the big April 4th Day of Action. Join tens of thousands of CWA members everywhere who are standing up to participate. Now it’s your turn.

Together we can defeat these attacks and protect our rights at work. I hope you’ll join us.

In unity,

Larry Cohen
