CWA and Verizon Reach an Agreement for the Over-subscribed and Surplus Members

Verizon Tape Transcript
From: Executive Vice President Angel Feliciano

“Today September 24th, CWA and Verizon reached an agreement to allow all over-subscribed and non-surplus members to leave the payroll under the terms of the May 2010, EIPP offer.

The agreement requires (with a few exceptions) that the vacancies created by those leaving the payroll will be backfilled. All remaining surplus employees will have the option to bid on the vacancies.

The agreement also addresses the issue of involuntary temporary transfers. Through the SPV process, Verizon will post 140 Field Technician vacancies in upstate NY. Surplus employees moving into these positions, if a home move is required, will receive a $24,000 relocation allowance. Verizon is obligated to hire from the street if there are not enough internal candidates filling the vacancies.

The current Field Technicians involuntary transfer arbitration will be settled with the Union retaining the right to re-instate it if there are any Field Technicians involuntarily transferred between November 20th 2010 and March 31, 2011.

We have also extended the no layoff agreement to all employees with the date remaining May 1, 2011.

Other highlights of the agreement include;

  • Suspension of discipline for representatives for certain sales requirements;
  • Elimination of contractors at Empire City Subway; and
  • Upgrades for certain administrative assistants;

Thanks to everyone who worked to make this agreement happen”.
