Harry Reid Just Did Something Great

Senate Republicans have been blocking a vote on President Obama’s judicial and executive branch nominees for no other reason than partisan politics.

But today, Democrats fought back, enacting Senate rules reform that does away with the ability of a minority of senators to prevent most judicial and executive branch nominees from getting the up-or-down vote that they deserve.

You can bet that Republicans who oppose this change are going to be flooding the cable news shows with complaints that Senator Reid and the senators who stood with him have “undermined democracy.” But the truth is, it’s the Republicans in the Senate who have been undermining democracy by blocking executive and judicial branch nominees from serving our country for reasons completely unrelated to their qualifications for the job.

We need to let Senator Reid know that he did the right thing. Click here to thank Senator Reid and the democrats who stood with him for taking a major step toward a fully-functional Senate and real Senate rules reform.

This is a major moment for our democracy. Our movement of millions of activists like you from labor, environmental, civil rights, good government and other groups is starting to break through some of the barriers we face.

Today we celebrate our progress and thank Senator Reid and others who listened to our calls for reform.
