Verizon Sends Union Contracting Letters

Verizon has sent out two letters to CWA which provide notice of the company’s intention to contract out certain work in six months. (see below). The company has shown what they think of our jobs and our job security, we will mobilize and fight!  Our labor built this company and we will not allow this group of multi-millionaires to take away our ability to feed and take care of our families!  We have a mandatory Verizon Chiefs meeting at the Local Tuesday, January 27 at 5:30PM.

Stop The TPP

Last night, in his state of the union address, President Obama spoke with confid ence about his vision for our nation. I was glad to hear about initiatives to expand educational opportunities and help workers better balance work and family responsibilities.

But there was one thing in his speech that didn’t make sense– asking Congress for Trade Promotion Authority, also known as “Fast Track,” to push through dangerous trade deals like the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

We need to make it clear to Congress that American voters are opposed to this deal before it gains momentum.

President Obama acknowledged that trade deals often do not live up to t heir promises that increased exports will create new jobs. Big corporations exploit these deals to send more jobs overseas than are created at home, taking advantage of low wages and weak environmental rules.

And with low-wage countries like Vietnam and Malaysia involved in the Trans-Pacific Partnership, there’s no reason to think it will be any different this time.

You have spoken out against this deal before, but corporate lobbyists are doubling down on their efforts to push this through, so please call now to say no to fast track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership.

Verizon Declares Surplus of Field Technicians in FAA 1

Verizon has declared a surplus of 169 Field Technicians in FAA 1 (New York City). This surplus has been determined by the Company to be due to a process change, not an external event. The provisions of FAP Articles 8(b) and 10 will not apply.

If the surplus condition requires the use of the Enhanced Income Protection Plan (EIPP) under step three of the Force Adjustment Plan, the EIPP packages will be distributed to employees in the surplus titles and FAAs involved by January 14, 2015. An employee’s election to leave the service of the company and receive EIPP payments must be in writing and transmitted to the Company within 15 days of the offer, in this case January 28, 2015. The off-payroll date for employees who accept the offer will be February 8, 2015.
